Keepin' us safer
Jebus K. Hamburger... the Bush misadministration said Tuesday it will fight to keep meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease.

You read that right. The Bush "administration" will fight to keep meatpackers from testing their animals for mad cow disease. How does stupid shit like this always end up happening?
Dude, you said it yourself: "the Bush 'administration.'" Along with their craven GOP lickspittles, the kneepadded 'liberal media,' and the cowardly Dems. Duh.

Right you are Maru! A significant factor/group I would add to your list (ie: "... the Bush 'administration.' Along with their craven GOP lickspittles, the kneepadded 'liberal media,' and the cowardly Dems.") would be the approximately 70% of the US voting age 'sheeple'. The 40-50% of the eligible voters who don't even fucking bother to vote - - plus the 10-20% who vote but vote fucking stupid, basing their votes on some TV campaign ad they saw, or some stupid, blind optimism ("the Republicans are going to help us poor people by reducing taxes", etc). I would argue that it's this group who ENABLES the other groups you mentioned. With a 60-70% voter participation by people who gave a fuck enough to think calmly and rationally about who & what they're voting for, none of this shit would be happening.

"Such is the stuff of dreams..."

What was the vote participation in France last month? 80% or something. Good thing the US is the model democracy throughout the world, eh?

Anyway, a short term solution for the average consumer: stop eating beef. It's easy.
